STEP 04 • PHYSICAL LOGISTICS & CHAIN OF CUSTODY
Strict cryptographic chain-of-custody workflows governing the physical transit, verification, and offline quarantine of multi-terabyte Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) datasets and restricted CJIS/CUI archival case files.
PHYSICAL SECURITY PROTOCOLS
PROTOCOL 01 • MEDIA STANDARD
Multi-terabyte genomic sequences (.bam, .vcf, .fastq, raw microarrays) and restricted CJIS/CUI files are accepted exclusively on FIPS 140-3 Level 3 hardware-encrypted media:
Apricorn Aegis Fortress L3 (Encrypted SSD/HDD)
Kingston IronKey (Hardware-Encrypted USB Volumes)
Enforcement: Unencrypted consumer flash drives, standard external hard drives, or optical media are strictly rejected at the receiving dock and returned to the sender unopened.
PROTOCOL 02 • CRYPTOGRAPHIC VERIFICATION
Prior to courier dispatch, all datasets must undergo SHA-256 cryptographic hashing. For secondary layer defense, raw files may be encapsulated within a VeraCrypt container on the hardware-encrypted drive.
Pre-computed SHA-256 cryptographic checksums per volume
Optional secondary VeraCrypt AES-XTS encapsulation
Requirement: The plain-text SHA-256 hash manifest and file directory ledger must be uploaded digitally via the Step 3 Encrypted Tresorit Vault before the physical parcel is placed in transit.
PROTOCOL 03 • ZERO-KNOWLEDGE ACCESS
Hardware keypad PINs and VeraCrypt container passphrases must never be written on, enclosed within, or attached to the physical shipping parcel.
Encrypted voice verification or designated Signal/Tresorit channels
Key release strictly gated until physical custody logged
Execution: Decryption credentials must be transmitted strictly out-of-band only after physical delivery confirmation and tamper-seal inspection are logged at my Ypsilanti, Michigan bioinformatics facility.
PROTOCOL 04 • OFFLINE WORKSTATION ISOLATION
Upon physical arrival and credential authorization, hardware volumes are mounted via hardware write-blockers in an isolated quarantine environment.
Forensic hardware write-blocker isolation barrier
Permanently offline Alvarez Operating System (AOS) node
Verification: Once the local SHA-256 hash calculation matches the pre-shipment manifest, the dataset is ingested directly into my permanently air-gapped Alvarez Operating System (AOS) bioinformatics pipeline. The air-gapped workstation is never connected to the internet.
Place the Apricorn Aegis or Kingston IronKey drive inside a serialized, tamper-evident forensic evidence bag prior to boxing. Record the bag’s serial number on your digital SHA-256 manifest.
Utilize anti-static shielding and high-density foam padding within a rigid outer shipping container to protect sensitive solid-state storage.
Ship via trackable, signature-required express courier (FedEx Priority Overnight, UPS Next Day Air, or registered legal courier) with direct point-to-point chain-of-custody logging.
Ensure the exterior shipping label displays standard commercial addressing only. Do not mark the outside of the box with case names, "DNA Evidence," or confidential client identifiers.
DESIGNATED RECEIVING HUB
Alvarez Forensics LLC — Bioinformatics & Archival Intake, Ypsilanti, Michigan (Exact street/suite coordinates issued upon Case Retainer & Dispatch Authorization).
CHAIN-OF-CUSTODY LOGGING
Upon courier intake, package condition, tamper-seal serial integrity, carrier tracking signatures, and delivery timestamp are formally logged into the evidentiary intake ledger.
MEDIA RETENTION & SANITIZATION PROTOCOL
Upon case completion and formal delivery of the Court-Admissible Forensic Addendum, physical drives are either returned to retaining counsel via insured courier or subjected to cryptographic erasure and NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1 Purge sanitization per client directive.
